OREANDA-NEWS. In Japan, where the Summer Olympic Games are held, 10,743 cases of coronavirus infection were detected over the past day, which was the maximum of the corresponding indicator.

In connection with the increase in morbidity, the country's authorities announced the introduction of an emergency regime, which will last from 2 to 31 August, in three prefectures: Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa, located near Tokyo, TASS reports.

In Tokyo, an anti-record for incidence was also recorded - 3,865 cases per day.

"The infection is spreading in Tokyo and western urban areas at a tremendous speed that we have never seen before," said Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.

Restrictive measures have already been introduced as part of the emergency regime have already been introduced in Tokyo and Okinawa Prefecture. Initially, they were supposed to be canceled on August 22, but in the end they were extended until the end of August.

On July 29, the International Olympic Committee assured that they did not reveal facts indicating a relationship between the holding of the Tokyo Olympics and the acceleration of the spread of coronavirus in Japan. In particular, the official representative of the organization, Mark Adams, stressed that he was not aware of a single case of transmission of an infection from a participant in the Games to the local population.

In addition, Adams recalled that more tests are carried out at the Olympics, wherever in the world. At the same time, very strict restrictions apply in the Olympic village. According to the IOC representative, in total, during the Olympic Games, 310 thousand tests for coronavirus were carried out, but the disease was detected only in 0.02% of cases.

Meanwhile, the Japanese government notes that the current increase in the number of infected in the country is unprecedented. At the same time, the surge occurred not only in Tokyo, but in general throughout the country.
