OREANDA-NEWS  Despite pressure from Western countries, China will continue to support Russia, since its defeat in the Ukrainian conflict would pose a threat to the security of the PRC. At the same time, this support will remain extremely cautious and correct. About this said political scientist Sergey Markov.

"The West threatens China with the fact that, if the country supports Russia, serious sanctions will be imposed on companies, China will be disconnected from the global infrastructure of international trade. At the same time, nothing is offered in return: either zero or minus," Markov said.

He explained that the US is blocking China's strategic direction, which the country has been developing for a decade. The PRC tried to conclude a financial and technological alliance with the EU, offering money and markets in exchange for technology.

Whether China cooperates with Russia or not, the United States considers it a strategic adversary and will block it. And sanctions will be imposed in any case, sooner or later. But, of course, it's better later than earlier, so China pretends to understand the concerns of the US and the EU

According to Markov, Russia's victory in the Ukrainian conflict is critically important for China, because otherwise the security of the country itself will be at risk.

"Just as they make "anti-Russia" out of Ukraine, they will make "anti-China" out of Russia. Meanwhile, China has a huge unpleasant experience with regard to the northern borders," the political scientist warned about the consequences of such a development of events.

Earlier it became known about the EU's intention to apply measures to combat economic coercion by China. It was reported that the European Commission has developed "tools to counter coercion" from China. "Now we need unity at the EU level for bolder and faster use of these tools," commented the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on this decision.
