OREANDA-NEWS According to the results of the first half of 2026, the share of domestic wine on the shelves of Russian stores increased significantly and reached about 24.6-37.5 percent, depending on the network and the format of outlets. This is reported by Kommersant with reference to the data of the Roskachestvo Wine Guide of Russia and the BLG-Service agency.
In January-June, the average share of Russian brands in the assortment of convenience stores was 37.55 percent, an increase of 11.75 percentage points (percentage points) year—on—year. In hypermarkets, the figure reached 29.67 percent (plus 8.1 percentage points), in supermarkets - 24.57 percent (plus 7.1 percentage points), in alcohol supermarkets - 28.97 percent (plus 5.32 percentage points), and in discounters ("low price stores") — 37.5 percent (plus 3.7 percentage points), analysts said.
The lowest average share of domestic wine was found in specialized wine stores. In such points, the indicator by the beginning of July was 16.5 percent, demonstrating an increase of 1.3 percentage points year-on-year, the experts concluded.
Thus, the share of domestic wine has almost overcome the minimum threshold of 20 percent required by the authorities. According to Roman Chekushov, Deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the launch of the "Russian wine shelf" is expected from March next year. As part of this measure, the minimum share of local products in retail will have to be at least one fifth of the entire range.
Taking into account the barrage of import duties, the rapid growth of excise taxes and the increase in retail prices, it will not be difficult to achieve this goal, experts agree. Taking into account the general decline in competition in the domestic market and the decline in the purchasing power of the population, Russian wine began to strengthen its position in the budget segment. However, in the higher price range, its quality does not reach its European counterparts, stated Ilya Voloshin, oenologist and champagne specialist for classic Olymp Winery wines.
