OREANDA-NEWS The merchant ship PROGRESS IV caught fire in Romania's exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea, according to the Informat portal.
According to the report, the incident occurred about 32 km from the city of Sfintu Gheorghe at about 19:00 on Thursday.
"The ship was damaged and seems to have sunk. At the moment, we do not know who and why, an investigation will be conducted, we should not make assumptions," Romanian President Nicusor Dan said.
He confirmed that all crew members had been rescued and stressed that the incident had occurred in Romanian territorial waters.
According to the portal, all 12 crew members were rescued, one sailor was injured.
