OREANDA-NEWS The United States has expanded the sanctions list against Russia. This was announced on December 20 by the Ministry of Finance of the country on its website.

Four companies involved in the transportation of oil, as well as the Sanar 15 oil tanker under the Russian flag, were subject to restrictions.

Earlier, on December 1, the Financial Times newspaper wrote that the American authorities want to halve Russia's revenues from sales of oil, gas and other energy resources by 2030. According to US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Geoffrey Pyatt, the purpose of the restrictions is to "correct Russia's behavior" by reducing opportunities for the Russian Federation to finance its army.

In early November, The Wall Street Journal reported that the ceiling on Russian oil prices was losing its effectiveness, including helping to reduce pressure on the ruble. The publication pointed out that oil and gas revenues to the Russian budget more than doubled in October compared to September, and this demonstrates a complete change in the situation since the beginning of 2023, when sales from energy carriers fell.

Earlier, on October 12, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that the growth in oil demand in 2023 would be a record. He also said that total oil consumption will grow to 116-118 million barrels per day by 2030.

Prior to that, on October 3, in a conversation with Izvestia, he also noted that the introduction of a price ceiling for Russian oil was ineffective, recalling a specially issued order by Russian President Vladimir Putin on non-compliance with the price ceiling in the oil supply contract. According to Novak, Russian companies are working precisely within the framework of this decree.
