OREANDA-NEWS  Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said on Thursday that Kiev had received F-16 fighter jets from the Netherlands, without specifying their number.

Umerov reported in late January that the Netherlands would transfer another batch of American F-16 fighter jets to the AFU Air Force this year.

"The air forces of the Armed forces of Ukraine have received a long-awaited reinforcement - the first French Mirage 2000 and F-16 fighters from the Kingdom of the Netherlands. And modern combat vehicles are already in Ukraine and will soon begin performing combat missions," Umerov wrote on his Facebook page* (banned in Russia as extremist).

Earlier on Thursday, French Defense Minister Sebastian Lecorny announced that the first French Mirage fighters had arrived in Ukraine.

In October, Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans reported that Amsterdam had delivered the first batch of 24 promised F-16 fighter jets to Kiev. The Netherlands has also supplied 18 such fighters to a pilot training center, including Ukrainian ones, in Romania.

Russia believes that arms supplies to Ukraine hinder the settlement and directly involve NATO countries in the conflict. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any shipments containing weapons for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. According to him, the United States and NATO are directly involved in the conflict, including not only by supplying weapons, but also by training personnel in the UK, Germany, Italy, and other countries. The Kremlin claimed that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West would have a negative effect.
