OREANDA-NEWS The Europeans who stole Russian assets are trying to portray innocence and give legitimacy to this act. Vladimir Shapovalov, a political scientist, historian, and board member of the Russian Association of Political Science, called Belgium's plans for funds from the Russian Federation a robbery, RT quotes him as saying.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the European country, Maxim Prevost, announced the readiness of the Belgian authorities to agree to the transfer of Russian assets frozen in Western countries to Ukraine. He called the distribution of legal risks between the countries of the European Union (EU) the main condition for such a step.
According to Shapovalov, no collective responsibility, which the Belgian minister is trying to hide behind, does not negate the fact that such actions are robbery. This is how other countries will view the actions of the European authorities, which will ruin the reputation of the community and undermine the ability to attract investments to the EU.
"It is clear that Russian assets have been stolen. But the thief who stole them is trying to portray the innocence and legality of his actions. As a result, to avoid responsibility. But it doesn't happen that way," he explained. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, at the session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, with her annual message on the state of affairs in the European Union, said that the organization does not intend to confiscate Russian assets. Instead of confiscation, Russian funds will be used to issue loans in the form of "reparations" for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
