OREANDA-NEWS The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media has proposed to introduce new rules for the collection of user data for the Federal Security Service, Kommersant reports.

It is reported that the equipment systems for operational-search activities (SORM), which are installed on communication networks, will be required to select and separately save the traffic of Internet calls, browser history and geo-positioning of users.

According to the source, this information was collected before in accordance with "Yarovaya Law" at the request of FSS, but it was not sorted and therefore was actually useless. The Ministry of Information underlined that the changes will mainly concern manufacturers of the equipment and certification authorities. There will be no additional costs for operators.

Earlier the Russian government allowed mobile operators not to store traffic of publicly available TV and radio channels, as well as streaming services. This will help reduce providers' costs for traffic storage systems.
