OREANDA-NEWS  The Union of Railway Transport Operators (SOJT) is seeking compensation for losses to rolling stock operators due to the retention of part of their freight cars in Ukraine and Finland. SOZHT sent such a proposal to the Ministry of Transport, Vedomosti reports, citing sources.

In total, about 16 thousand Russian wagons were stuck in Ukraine and Finland. This is slightly more than 1% of the total fleet of freight cars in Russia, which reaches about 1.2 million units. The operators estimated the maximum amount of compensation at 32 billion rubles. One car costs an average of 2 million rubles, the newspaper writes.

As one of the sources of Vedomosti clarified, the operators appealed to the Ministry of Transport after the decision of the government of the Russian Federation to pay compensation to the owners of trucks arrested in Ukraine. In October, the government allocated 1.64 billion rubles for these purposes.

Recall that in March, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky signed a law on the compulsory seizure of property of the Russian Federation and its residents. In the same month, the Ukrainian Railway announced plans to detain Russian freight cars. According to Vedomosti, these wagons belonged, among others, to Novotrans, Eurosib, the New Transportation Company and Balttransservice. Finland has also arrested about 1,000 wagons of Russian companies that have fallen under EU sanctions.
