OREANDA-NEWS  The militarization of NATO countries continues at an accelerated pace, and their defense spending has reached colossal levels. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko expressed his concern about this in an interview with the Franco-Russian Dialogue association, TASS reports.

"Today, the amount of military expenditures of all NATO countries has reached colossal values — 1.5 trillion dollars. [The Europeans] will have to sacrifice allocations for social needs, healthcare, science and education," he said.

According to him, the West is intensively demonizing Russia, talking about the "threat" from Moscow. The diplomat stressed that NATO wants to build a new security system "not only without Russia's participation, but also against it."

Earlier, Finnish President Alexander Stubb said that he did not consider defense spending in NATO burdensome. According to him, Finland outside the alliance can be compared to a person "standing in the cold at minus 20 degrees."
