OREANDA-NEWS  The level of Russia's external debt per capita fell below two thousand dollars last year — for the first time since 2005, according to calculations by RIA Novosti based on data from the Central Bank.

The level of debt owed to non—residents per person has been decreasing over the past few years: five years ago, in 2019, the figure was $3,349, then in 2023 it was $2,175.

Last year, external liabilities continued to decline, reaching $1,987 per capita. They decreased by 8.7 percent over the year. This is the lowest level since 2005, when it was 1,802 dollars.

The calculations were based on Rosstat's estimate of the population as of January 1, 2024, which excludes statistics for the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), Luhansk People's Republic (LPR), Zaporizhia and Kherson regions.
