OREANDA-NEWS The creation of the first Russian commercial radar satellite "Oculus" will cost more than 1 billion rubles. The corresponding cost was announced to TASS by Anton Alekseev, CEO of Novy Kosmos.

The promising spacecraft is designed to monitor the state of permafrost and ice conditions, and detect oil product spills. According to the head, 80 percent of the satellite will consist of Russian components, so its mass will be slightly higher than that of its foreign counterparts.

The launch of the spacecraft can take place within three years after the launch of its creation. The company is currently attracting investments to develop a satellite.

In April, European Spaceflight noted that NATO and the Finnish company Iceye, which operates the world's largest constellation of aperture radar synthesis satellites, had signed a contract to supply satellite data.

In December, the Roscosmos state corporation announced that it plans to launch at least 12 satellites for various purposes in 2025, in particular, the radar "Obzor-R".
