OREANDA-NEWS  The amount of cash in circulation in Russia increased by 7.5 percent over the year, from 17.973 trillion rubles on July 1, 2025 to 21.284 trillion by July 1, 2026. This assessment is provided in the Central Bank's review of cash flow in April-June of this year.

In particular, it follows from the presented data that the number of banknotes in circulation increased from 17.845 trillion to 21.152 trillion, and the growth rate of cash in circulation increased from 1.9 percent a year earlier, that is, it accelerated almost fourfold.

The share of cash in circulation outside the banking system increased in total over the year from 14.0 to 14.7 percent, according to the materials of the Central Bank.

According to the July data, which is not taken into account in the above statistics, the volume of cash in circulation increased by another 643.4 billion rubles last month. The last time the indicator fell in January (by 386.2 billion), after which it jumped by more than two and a half trillion rubles in six months.

The Central Bank attributed the growing interest in cash to problems with payments due to interruptions in mobile Internet access, as well as adaptation to tax changes.

"The demand for banknotes will periodically fluctuate in one direction or another. It depends on the level of bank interest rates, on the current needs of people in settlements and on the availability of payment instruments," Arkady Trachuk, General Director of Goznak, noted against this background.
