The Moscow Exchange index bounced up to 2,700 points on Trump's statements

OREANDA-NEWS On Monday evening, the Russian stock market made a leap up after US President Donald Trump announced his intention to impose secondary duties of 100% on Russia if it is not possible to achieve a Ukrainian settlement in 50 days.
By 18:23, the Moscow Stock Exchange index jumped by 2.1% to 2,697.48 points, the RTS index grew by 1.5% to 1,084.27 points; prices of most blue chips on the Moscow Stock Exchange increased by 5.9%.
The growth leaders are shares of Norilsk Nickel (+5.9%), Gazprom (+4.7%), Rosneft (+3.6%), NLMK (+3.5%), AFK Sistema (+3.3%), UC Rusal (+3.3%), Severstal (+3.2%), NOVATEK (+3%).
In the morning session on Monday, the Moscow Exchange index dropped to 2,604 points, after which there was a correction to the area of 2,650 points in anticipation of a speech by US President Trump regarding possible new anti-Russian sanctions.
Trump said on Monday that he was disappointed with Russia's position on the Ukrainian settlement. "We are very unhappy. I'm not happy with Russia," Trump said at a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House, speaking about Moscow's position. At the same time, he noted that he plans to discuss the Ukrainian crisis in more detail on "another day."
The head of the White House warned that he would impose "very severe duties if we do not have a deal within 50 days." He added that we are talking about secondary duties of "about 100%."
