OREANDA-NEWS  Despite all the restrictions, the dollar continues to be the most popular foreign currency among Russians. This is reported by TASS with reference to the results of a study conducted by analysts of the financial marketplace.

Russians generally retain a long-term interest in currency diversification, experts say. First of all, this applies to those who accumulate savings for a period of more than a year.

The dollar accounted for 68 percent of all applications for the purchase of foreign currency, the analysts explained. The achieved result was the highest in the last five quarters. Other currencies lagged significantly behind the American one. Thus, the share of the euro was 22 percent, and the yuan — 7 percent, experts stated.

Experts attribute the growth in demand for foreign currency in Russia primarily to the prolonged easing of the Central Bank's monetary policy. The prolonged drop in the key rate, they explain, has made deposits and deposits less attractive to citizens. The result was a massive outflow of funds from banks. In May, individuals withdrew a total of 550 billion rubles from accounts and deposits. Against this background, buying foreign currency has become an alternative for many to form long-term savings.
