OREANDA-NEWS As of the end of March, the volume of US government debt exceeded the volume of the American economy, which is the first such case since the end of World War II, Fox Business TV channel reports, citing budget documents.

"The US national debt has now exceeded the size of the American economy, crossing a historical threshold that has not been crossed since the end of World War II," the TV channel writes.

According to estimates by the Bureau of Economic Analysis of the US Department of Commerce, cited by the media, the total debt obligations of Americans at the end of the reporting period (March 31) amounted to approximately 31.27 trillion dollars. At the same time, the volume of GDP at that time was estimated at 31.22 trillion dollars, which means that the US national debt exceeded 100% of the volume of the American economy.
