OREANDA-NEWS  Former Russian national team player Andrey Arshavin spoke about the possible transition of the Russian Football Union (RFU) from the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to the Asian Football Confederation. His words are quoted by Sport24.

"I don't understand the meaning of this transition if we are blocked in the International Football Federation (FIFA) anyway. If there are other reasons that I do not know about, let them consider the transition," he said. Arshavin noted that it is necessary to engage in internal football, internal personnel and organize internal competitions.

Earlier, RFU President Alexander Dyukov spoke about the possible withdrawal of the organization from UEFA. "A few months ago I said that Asia is premature. But now this is an opportunity that we should consider," he shared.

On February 28, FIFA and UEFA excluded Russian national teams and clubs from the draws of international tournaments. The teams do not compete in European competitions, and the Russian national team has lost its chances to participate in the 2022 World Cup.
