OREANDA-NEWS  Latvia reacted to the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the return of Russian athletes. This is reported on the website of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of the Baltic Republic.

The organization condemned the decisions of the IOC, which are aimed at restoring the status of the Olympic Committees of Russia and Belarus. "The Latvian Olympic Committee expressed the hope that international sports federations will develop mechanisms to prevent athletes from Russia and Belarus from participating in international competitions," the committee said in a statement.

Earlier, the NOC of Ukraine made a similar statement. The organization expressed "categorical disagreement with the decision of the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee." It was called "premature, unjustified and adopted without taking into account objective circumstances that remain unchanged."

On Tuesday, the IOC lifted recommendations for international federations and organizers of international sporting events on restrictions on Russian participation. In addition, the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) has been temporarily reinstated.
