Paraguay Complained to FIFA about CSKA's Refusal to Let a Rookie Join the National Team
Medina has been called up to the national team for the first time in his career, which is set to play in World Cup qualifying matches against Uruguay and Brazil. However, the Red and Blue have banned the 24-year-old midfielder from leaving the team's training camp in January.
Paraguay have exercised their right to lodge a complaint with FIFA against the Muscovites. Under the regulations, football authorities will now disqualify Medina for one or more official matches for CSKA.
"Jesus Medina has not been let go by his club CSKA, he will not take part in the qualifying matches. The secretary general of the Paraguayan Football Association has already informed FIFA of the situation,"- the Paraguayan national team said.
The Paraguayan national team announced its squad for the qualifying matches against Uruguay and Brazil on 14 January. In addition to Medina, the team is missing four other players for health reasons: Andres Kubas, Celso Ortiz, Roberto Fernandez and Omar Alderete.
CSKA announced the transfer of 24-year-old Medina on January 17. The midfielder has signed a contract with the Army side until the summer of 2025.
The Paraguayan national team will take on the Uruguayans on January 27 as part of their qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar and will play Brazil away on February 1.
Medina played one friendly for the national team in 2017.
