OREANDA-NEWS Japanese figure skater Mao Shimada shared her impressions of the return of competitors from Russia to international competitions. This is reported by Sport24.
According to the athlete, Russians inspire her. "I really like Sasha Trusova, the way she rides. She has a very beautiful quadruple lutz — tall and spectacular. I thought that Russian figure skaters would compete in tournaments later, but I like to compete with them," said Shimada.
Earlier, Daniil Gleikhengauz, figure skating coach and choreographer of the Eteri Tutberidze group, spoke about the search for advantages of excluding Russians from international tournaments. According to the specialist, they are missing.
On June 30, the ISU allowed Russian and Belarusian figure skaters to participate in tournaments under its auspices in a neutral status. Prior to that, Russians had not participated in international tournaments since 2022, with the exception of the OI-2026, where two athletes were allowed.
