OREANDA-NEWS  Russian high diving champion Leila Salamova has died at the age of 23. This was announced by the President of the Russian Federation of Diving Stanislav Druzhinin.

The athlete died in a car accident. Druzhinin expressed his condolences to the Salamova family and promised to provide support from the federation. "This is shocking news for us. I can't imagine what horror her parents and relatives are experiencing," he said.

According to Match TV, the accident occurred in Karelia on the 163rd kilometer of the Sortavala highway. As a result of the collision of Mitsubishi Lancer and Volkswagen Tiguan cars, the driver and passenger of Mitsubishi were killed.

Salamova became the champion of Russia in 2021. The athlete also has a silver medal of the national championship in synchronized diving from the tower in 2015.
