OREANDA-NEWS   A court in the United States has charged a Russian Harvard scientist, Ksenia Petrova, with smuggling biomaterials. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to a statement from the Massachusetts State Prosecutor's Office.

"Today, a federal grand jury in Boston indicted a Russian citizen in connection with an attempt to smuggle larval frog embryos and fetal samples into the United States," the statement said.

It is noted that according to the three charges brought against Petrova, in particular, smuggling, concealment of a material fact and giving false testimony, she faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to 500 thousand dollars. At the moment, the scientist remains at large, the court released her on bail.

In April, the administration of US President Donald Trump denied Petrova's parole, citing the fact that she had not proven that she "does not pose a threat to society or the security of the United States." The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) also expressed concern that if released, the Russian woman might decide to escape.
