An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 was recorded off the coast of New Zealand

OREANDA-NEWS A seismic event of magnitude 5.6 occurred in the Pacific Ocean near New Zealand, according to the Altai-Sayan branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The epicenter of the earthquake, which occurred at 23:57 Moscow time on Wednesday, was located 936 meters northeast of Tauranga, a city on the North Island of New Zealand, and 170 kilometers south of Raul Island in the Kermadec archipelago.
Based on the intensity of the tremors in the epicenter, the earthquake was classified as a "very strong" event.
The Geological Survey estimated the magnitude of the earthquake at 5.2. According to their data, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 49.1 kilometers.
