OREANDA-NEWS  The Finnish Foreign Ministry has ordered the country's banks to disclose data on large deposits of Russians and Belarusians. This is reported with reference to the statement of the department.

The requirement applies only to some citizens of Russia and Belarus and deposits in the amount of more than 100 thousand euros. Credit institutions must submit the data to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in electronic form no later than May 27. Such measures have been taken in accordance with the norms of European sanctions legislation.

As Bloomberg reported, since the beginning of hostilities in Ukraine, the EU has frozen the assets of Russian individuals and legal entities under sanctions for 24.1 billion euros. In addition, the assets of the Russian Central Bank (CB) in the amount of more than 200 billion euros were blocked. As part of the tenth package of sanctions, the European Union obliged banks to disclose information about the funds placed in them by the Russian Central Bank.

In October 2022, it was reported that the EC was also considering the possibility of confiscating the private assets of Russians on the sanctions lists. Now they can only be frozen. In order to create a legal basis for more radical measures, the EU may include the violation of sanctions in the list of crimes allowing the seizure of property.
