Harvesting in Russia was delayed

OREANDA-NEWS As of July 1, 1.3-1.5 million hectares of grain and leguminous crops were threshed in Russia, which is three times less than a year earlier. Kommersant writes about this with reference to information from Neo business development partner Albina Koryagina.
Dmitry Rylko, General Director of the Institute of Agricultural Market Studies, explained that the harvesting campaign in the region started one to two weeks late. The reason for this delay was the weather — at first it was cool, and then it started to rain.
Koryagina confirmed that the weather factor had an impact, but noticed that fuel difficulties were superimposed on it. In her opinion, lack of fuel can delay the cleaning time, because on average companies lose 2-4 percent of their daily volume due to this problem.
The Ministry of Agriculture recalled that in some regions, due to the weather, sowing operations took place later, which also affects the timing of the harvesting campaign. Officials hope that the pace of work will increase.
Nevertheless, Rylko pointed out that the low harvesting rate raises concerns due to an increase in the accumulated harvest volume. As a result, farmers will have to work more intensively than usual, and it is not known how much they will be able to maintain this pace.
According to Koryagina, some agricultural producers do not have the opportunity to get fuel on time. Deliveries according to previously agreed requests are being slowed down, and resellers do not have sufficient volume. The situation is particularly alarming in regions that are far from oil refineries.
Andrei Sizov, director of Sovecon, believes that there will definitely be enough diesel fuel in the country until the end of 2026, but the rising costs of it themselves are hitting farmers. Grain transportation from fields to granaries and ports is difficult, producers do not have their own cargo transport, and it is not easy to find it from contractors. Neo estimates that, on average, tariffs for grain transportation by road have increased by 20-30 percent.
Experts expect a further decline in the profitability of the agricultural business due to a combination of problems. According to Sizov, a direct consequence of falling incomes will be the general archaization of agriculture and a reduction in acreage for wheat.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that the regions, against the background of current difficulties, should increase the efficiency of using fuel resources, as well as apply a balanced approach to their allocation, taking into account the needs in key industries.
