OREANDA-NEWS The increase in icy rains in Russia is associated with global warming, Professor Alexander Kislov, head of the Department of Meteorology and Climatology of the Geographical Faculty of Moscow State University, said on the radio station "Moscow Speaks".

Previously, this phenomenon was typical for the south of the country — the Crimea or the Kursk region, the specialist explained. At the same time, freezing rain is becoming normal for Central Russia. "This [freezing rain] is actually a manifestation of global warming, more often warm air began to penetrate, carrying a lot of water vapor," Kislov explained.

The climatologist added that the weather phenomenon occurs due to the penetration of Atlantic Ocean cyclones into the country. He also pointed out that recently in Russia, due to changes in the precipitation regime, there is no "typical Russian winter", which is also due to climatic changes.

Earlier, the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, Roman Vilfand, predicted the arrival of "African heat" in Moscow next week. According to him, the temperature will exceed the climatic norm by five degrees Celsius. The weather will meet the norms of the beginning of October.
