OREANDA-NEWS The dates of sowing campaigns in the European part of Russia are shifted by several weeks, which carries risks for the harvest of spring crops. Izvestia writes about this with reference to the opinions of agricultural producers.
Alexey Krasilnikov, Executive Director of the Potato Union, explained that the work has been delayed for two weeks already. During the May holidays, Russians traditionally started planting potatoes, but this year in regions facing bad weather it is better to wait because the soil temperature has not yet risen to eight degrees.
In turn, the head of the Association of Peasant (Farmer) farms and Agricultural Cooperatives of Russia (AKKOR) in the Tula region, Evgeny Podshebyakin, complained about the high humidity of the soil, which is impossible to work with. He called the possibility of further overdrying the soil a separate risk, which would make late sowing unfavorable and affect the quality of the crop.
Nikita Tokmakov, a farmer from Voronezh, also explained that late sowing increases the risks in the event of a rainy autumn, which will make it impossible to harvest the entire crop.
Oksana Lut, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, admitted a week ago that due to the unsuitable weather, the dynamics of spring sowing is worse than a year earlier. "We haven't even sowed yet, there's no forecast, but everything will be fine," she assured.
Earlier it was reported that the production of agricultural machinery in Russia continued to fall due to the lack of money from farmers to upgrade the fleet. Gennady Nepomnyashchy, Commercial director of the EcoNiva technical holding, stressed that farmers sell their goods at the cost of production, so instead of a planned replacement of equipment, they have to repair existing ones, which will necessarily negatively affect the harvest.
