OREANDA-NEWS   Japan on Friday announced a decision in connection with the situation around Ukraine from August 9 to impose a ban on the export to Russia of cars with gasoline and diesel engines with a volume of more than 1,900 cm3, Japanese media reported.

"In cooperation with the international community, including the G7, as well as relevant ministries and departments, we would like to firmly implement the decisions taken," Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yasutoshi Nishimura said at a press conference.

Japan's ban in accordance with the G7 sanctions against Russia applies to both new and used cars, as well as tires designed for electric and hybrid cars.

As noted in the reports, since April last year, Japan has already banned the supply of new premium cars to Russia worth more than 6 million yen ($ 43 thousand).

The Kyodo agency writes that the volume of Japanese exports to Russia in 2022 decreased by 30% compared to the previous year. Passenger cars, most of which were used, accounted for more than half of this figure.

The United States and European countries have expanded the ban on the export of cars to Russia after the leaders of the "Big Seven" agreed at their May summit to take measures to restrict the export of all goods that could be used in the military sphere.

In particular, as reported, the European Union has banned the supply of electric vehicles and hybrid cars to Russia. The EU will also extend the ban on the export of luxury cars to all new and used cars with an engine capacity of more than 1900 cm3.
