OREANDA-NEWS  Russian and Syrian Foreign Ministers Sergey Lavrov and Faisal Miqdad exchanged views on topical issues on the regional agenda and discussed the situation in Syria during a telephone conversation on Monday, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports.

Lavrov noted "the importance of the decision taken in May this year to restore Syria's rights in the League of Arab States and the positive impact of this event on the processes in the Middle East and North Africa."

On behalf of the Syrian leadership, Mekdad "confirmed Russia's support for its special military operation in Ukraine," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The conversation took place on the initiative of the Syrian side.
