OREANDA-NEWS  French President Emmanuel Macron adheres to the position on the need to provide security guarantees to Russia after the end of the fighting in Ukraine, rejecting criticism on this issue from the Ukrainian authorities.

"Our role is to prepare peace, and when it comes, negotiations will be required. It is necessary for Russia to be at the negotiating table as a party to the conflict in order to build a sustainable peace," he said in an interview with LCI and TF1 TV channels on Tuesday. Macron noted that for Ukraine, for its part, France already provides security guarantees by supplying it with weapons. At the same time, the President stressed that, despite Paris' military assistance to Kiev, he is categorically against further escalation and France's involvement in the conflict as one of the parties.

"Let everyone who reproaches me for talking about such a topic explain to me what he is offering," the French leader added. - People who refuse to prepare and work on this offer a full-scale war. It will affect the whole continent," he warned, adding that he is clearly against it.

Thus, the president commented on the public attacks against him by the Secretary of the National Security Council of Ukraine Alexey Danilov and some European politicians who did not agree with Macron's thesis about the need to provide guarantees for Russia's security. Earlier, he said in an interview with TF1 TV channel following his visit to the United States that the future European security architecture should provide guarantees for Russia.
