OREANDA-NEWS Russia today is among the world leaders in production and quality in combat aviation and, in general, in most defense industry products, as well as nuclear icebreakers; as for technologies, the main "horse" is photonics and lasers, which are actively used in the metallurgical industry, Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov told RIA Novosti in an interview.

"Combat aviation - airplanes and helicopters – is an area where we surpass our competitors today both in quality and quantity. As in general for most areas of defense industry products: it is enough to mention the fact that only our systems (S-500 Prometheus SAM) they are able to successfully resist our own unique hypersonic weapons," he said in an interview on the eve of the SPIEF, answering a question about the achievements of the Russian Federation.

"And just recently, the Obukhov Plant reported that the S-350 Vityaz anti-aircraft missile system for the first time in the world worked on a target in the zone of a special operation in automatic mode – using artificial intelligence without the participation of the human factor," the official added.

Manturov clarified that the Russian Federation has also significantly succeeded in railway engineering and metallurgy. "In shipbuilding, we have no equal in terms of creating nuclear icebreakers, and in general, in nuclear and space technologies, we have unique and valuable competencies for the whole world. Photonics and lasers are another of our "strong points", which today allows us to be technologically independent in metalworking and in other areas where laser is actively used, including in medical devices and medical equipment," he added.

Also, according to the Deputy Prime Minister, the brightest results of the work of the domestic industry are planned to be presented at the exhibition "Russia" (to be held from November 4, 2023 to April 12, 2024 at VDNH).

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) will be held on June 14-17. RIA Novosti is an information partner and photo-hosting agency of the forum.
