Sergey Lavrov Holds Talks with Dominican Foreign Minister
OREANDA-NEWS. September 10, 2009. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs Carlos Morales Troncoso of the Dominican Republic in Moscow.
During the meeting, held in an atmosphere of friendship and understanding, a thorough exchange of views took place on topical issues of the international and bilateral agenda, as well as on the situation in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The ministers discussed issues of strengthening the UN role in international relations, including its peacekeeping and conflict resolution activities. In the same context, the tasks of multilateral cooperation in combating international terrorism, the drug business and organized crime were examined.
Other topics covered included the promotion of dialogue and greater practical cooperation between Russia and key regional integration entities and associations, primarily the Organization of American States, Rio Group, the Caribbean Community, and the Central American Integration System.
The sides reaffirmed their mutual commitment to developing multifarious Russian-Dominican relations in an ongoing manner, with emphasis on the promotion of political dialogue and mutually beneficial economic, commercial, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
At the conclusion of the talks, the ministers signed an Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Dominican Republic on the Abolition of Visas for Holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports, and a joint statement.
The head of the MFA of the Dominican Republic invited Sergey Lavrov to pay a return visit to Santo Domingo at a convenient time for him. The invitation was accepted with gratitude.
