OREANDA-NEWS Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted the invitation of his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo to the G20 summit, which will be held on the island of Bali on November 15-16, Yury Ushakov, aide to the head of the Russian state, said on Monday, June 27.

He told reporters that the leader of Indonesia sent the inbitation for Putin to take part in the G20 summit on November 15-16. When asked to clarify whether the Russian side had responded to the invitation, Ushakov replied: "Yes, we have confirmed that our participation is envisaged".

He was also asked whether this participation would be face-to-face or by video link. "They are inviting the President in person. But there is still a lot of time. I hope that the pandemic will allow this event to be held in person", Ushakov replied.

The presidential aide also pointed out the importance of Widodo's inviting Putin to the summit "given that the Indonesians are being pressured by the respective Western countries".

Earlier, French Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno Le Maire called on the Russian Federation to refrain from participating in G20 events. Prior to this, US President Joe Biden spoke in favor of excluding Russia from the G20. He noted that the issue of exclusion of the Russian Federation has already been discussed, but not all countries participating in the format agree with this.
