OREANDA-NEWS  Gazprom"would be more profitable to supply its promising projects in the Arctic with electricity from floating nuclear power units, and Rosatom is working on such opportunities, Kulinko said.

According to him, large investors working in the Arctic "definitely have an interest in floating nuclear power plants."

"In our opinion, floating nuclear power units could be most suitable for Gazprom," Kulinko said. From the point of view of its promising projects, it is technologically more profitable for Gazprom to work with Rosatom, rather than build its own gas turbines, and get electricity that is quite cheap by northern standards due to nuclear technologies," he added.

According to Kulinko, "Rosatom is carrying out the corresponding work." "But I am not authorized to disclose the details yet," he said.

Rosatom is exploring the possibilities of attracting the competencies of shipyards from China and Turkey for the construction of icebreakers in Russia, including non-nuclear ones, Kulinko said.

Taking into account the fact that the nuclear icebreakers of the 22220 project have already "proven themselves well" on the Northern Sea Route, a "serious study" is underway on which additional icebreakers should be built based on the prospects of cargo flow on the NSR of 150 million tons for 2030, the interlocutor noted.

"We have three key consumers of icebreaking services today. These are Norilsk Nickel, Novatek and Rosneft. Everyone, taking into account the fact that they are implementing large investment projects in the coastal territory of the NSR, sees the need to build two non-nuclear icebreakers for their projects. And so, based on the geographical features of the implementation of projects and the logistics of the export of products, there is a discussion of what characteristics the new icebreakers should have," he explained.
