OREANDA-NEWS The station crashed into the surface of the Moon due to the fact that during the last maneuver the device did not shut down normally and worked for 127 seconds instead of the required 84 seconds, explained Yuri Borisov.

The engine of the Russian Luna-25 spacecraft did not shut down normally during the last maneuver and worked for 127 seconds instead of the required 84 seconds. This was the reason why the ship descended from the required orbit and fell to the moon, said the head of Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov.

"Before making the adjustment, the device carried out a reorientation, and at 14:10 the engines turned on, which were supposed to correct and put the device into a pre-landing orbit. Unfortunately, the engine shutdown did not occur normally in accordance with the cyclogram, but according to the time cutoff," he said.

According to him, specialists on Earth maintained stable radio communication with the device near the Moon and knew everything about the position of the device. Communication with the device was lost at 14:57 on August 19, and attempts to re-establish it were unsuccessful, Borisov added.
