OREANDA-NEWS  Rospotrebnadzor has strengthened sanitary and quarantine control in connection with the outbreak of the Marburg virus in Equatorial Guinea, according to the agency's website.

WHO has called an urgent meeting on the outbreak of the deadly Marburg virus in Equatorial Guinea. This disease with a mortality rate of 90% is the closest relative of Ebola viral hemorrhagic fever. In Equatorial Guinea, 9 people died from the virus, and another 16 people had similar symptoms. According to media reports, the deaths were recorded between January 7 and February 7.

— The Marburg virus is very contagious. Urgent measures are now being taken to stop its spread," said the WHO Regional Director for Africa.

The WHO statement also says that teams have been deployed in the affected areas to track people who have been in contact with the sick in order to isolate them and provide medical care.

"Rospotrebnadzor has given instructions to strengthen sanitary and quarantine control using the automated information system "Perimeter", which is installed at all checkpoints across the state border of the Russian Federation," the message says. Rospotrebnadzor also suggests taking this information into account when planning foreign trips and choosing countries that are epidemiologically safe.
