OREANDA-NEWS  Russia and Tunisia intend to develop bilateral cooperation, including in the field of agriculture and energy, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"We have agreed to develop our cooperation in all areas. This also applies to agriculture, they are interested in our grain supplies, this also applies to the energy sector, including nuclear energy," Lavrov told reporters after a meeting with the Tunisian president at the Carthage Palace.

The Russian Foreign Minister said that Russia and Tunisia agreed to accelerate the entry into force of the agreement on the peaceful use of atomic energy.

The two countries are interested in developing cooperation in the field of high technologies, including space exploration: recently, a Russian carrier launched the first Tunisian satellite into orbit, a second satellite is planned to be launched next year, and an agreement has also been reached on the joint production of five more space objects.

According to the minister, Russia is sympathetically watching the actions of the Tunisian president to reform the country's political system, noting significant results in this matter.

The Russian Foreign Minister noted that the development of Tunisia's domestic political system benefits bilateral relations, and in the first nine months of 2023, bilateral trade turnover tripled and amounted to $ 1.5 billion.
