At the meetings of the intergovernmental commission in Pyongyang, the Russian and North Korean sides discussed issues of increasing trade turnover, in particular, the supply of Russian flour, corn and meat to the DPRK, the topic of joint geological exploration of gold, iron and rare earth metals deposits.

The meeting of the trade and scientific intergovernmental commission in the capital of the DPRK was proposed by the leader of North Korea Kim Jong-un, the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources Alexander Kozlov, who heads the bilateral intergovernmental commission, told reporters on Friday.

According to Kozlov, during the two-day visit to the capital of the DPRK, the issues of the growth of trade turnover between the two countries were touched upon.

"The main (Russian) exports are flour, corn and soybean oil," Kozlov said.

OREANDA-NEWS  A test delivery of meat products to the DPRK in 2024 was also discussed, the minister said.

The topic of subsoil use, "joint geological exploration of gold, iron and rare earth metals deposits" was also discussed at the talks, the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources said.

The talks also touched upon the problems of cooperation in the field of education, exchange programs between the Blagoveshchensk Pedagogical University and the Pedagogical Institute of the DPRK.

Along with this, the Russian and North Korean sides considered the issue of an intergovernmental agreement on mutual recognition of diplomas and academic degrees. The parties also intend to conduct research related to migratory birds, Kozlov said, noting that 359 species of birds cross the borders between the Russian Federation and the DPRK.

The Minister said that in the field of sports, 12 types have been identified for interaction between the federations of the two countries and participation in competitions.

The parties did not ignore the cooperation in the field of culture. Thus, the ballet troupe of the Primorsky stage of the Mariinsky Theater will perform in Pyongyang in March 2024.

"Our attitude is to comprehensively strengthen ties with the DPRK. And the tasks set by (Russian President) Vladimir Putin will be fulfilled," Kozlov concluded.
