Russia will not return to the grain deal, Zakharova said

OREANDA-NEWS Russia will not return to the grain deal, as this whole initiative was aimed at Western countries profiting and enriching their own corporations, only hiding behind needy countries and lofty slogans, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
"Hiding behind lofty slogans, under the UN flag, the Westerners worked exclusively in the interests of their corporations. They bought agricultural products cheaply from Kiev, loaded their processing industry with raw materials. And then, at higher prices, they were resold, among other things, to the same needy Africans, whom they seemed to care about. In fact, they were just cashing in," Zakharova said at a briefing.
She added that on the part of the Russian Federation, all agreements on the grain deal were carried out in good faith, but no one else intends to show goodwill by receiving new sanctions in response.
The Black Sea Grain Initiative, which was signed on July 22, 2022 by representatives of Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the United Nations, involved the export of Ukrainian grain and food, as well as fertilizers across the Black Sea from three ports, including Odessa. The grain deal was terminated on July 18, 2023. Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the terms of the deal with Russia were not fulfilled, despite the efforts of the United Nations, because Western countries did not fulfill their obligations.
