OREANDA-NEWS Russian-Indian naval exercises are taking place in the Bay of Bengal, the press service of the Pacific Fleet (TOF) reported.

"The sailors of the two countries carry out joint maneuvering as part of various formations, conduct air defense and communications training. In practice, it is planned to work out the replenishment of stocks on the move, the conscientious use of deck helicopters," the report says.

On the Russian side, the exercises involve the large anti-submarine ship Admiral Tributs and the medium sea tanker Pechenga of the Pacific Fleet, the destroyer Ranvijai, the corvette Kiltan, as well as aircraft and helicopters from the Indian Navy.

The purpose of the exercises is "comprehensive development and strengthening of cooperation in the naval field between Russia and India, joint counteraction to global threats and ensuring the safety of civil navigation in the Asia-Pacific region."

The exercises will last until November 22. The day before, a detachment of ships of the Pacific Fleet completed a business call at the Indian port of Visakhapatnam.
