OREANDA-NEWSThe Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky considered the position of the US Embassy, which refused to issue visas to members of the Russian delegation to work at the UN General Assembly, unreasonable.

"I didn't apply for a visa as a private person, I am under American sanctions and enter the United States once a year, just like Konstantin Kosachev, as part of the Russian UN delegation", Slutsky told reporters on Tuesday. "The fact that the US embassy does not comment on the situation, it is clear that they have nothing to say", the head of the committee added.

"The situation allows us to once again make sure that, unfortunately, this is very dangerous for the US State Department in relation to those whom, for one reason or another subjective reasons, don't perceive as it should, there are no red lines", said Slutsky. "This also applies to the unilateral withdrawal from the INF Treaty", he added.

Ten people did not receive visas: seven employees of the Foreign Ministry, as well as three members of the delegation, including the head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Konstantin Kosachev. According to him, the documents are in the US Embassy, at the time of departure, visas weren't issued. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the incident an outrageous example of Washington’s disrespect for members of the world organization.

The Kremlin is confident that the United States has violated international rules. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov regarded the situation as unacceptable, requiring a tough reaction from Moscow and the UN. The representative of the US Embassy in Moscow was given a note of protest.
