OREANDA-NEWS  The German Foreign Ministry announced the return of some employees of German diplomatic missions to Berlin from Russia, without specifying their number. This is reported by the Stern edition with reference to the statement of the department on May 1.

The Foreign Ministry pointed out that in mid-March, a number of employees of Russian diplomatic missions left Germany, as their activities allegedly "did not correspond to the diplomatic status."

"The Russian government has asked a similar number of employees of German missions to leave the country. They left Russia today, May 1," the document quoted by the media says.

The Russian Foreign Ministry then noted that such actions are aimed at the course of destruction of Russian-German relations, including diplomatic dimensions. The Foreign Ministry also condemned Germany's decision.

On March 25, the Focus edition told about Germany's plans to expel over 30 employees of Russian diplomatic missions due to suspicions of alleged recruitment for the purpose of further espionage. Two days later, German Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Andrea Sasse denied media claims that 30 Russian diplomats would be expelled from the country.

Last year, Russia faced the mass expulsion of its diplomats from European countries against the background of a special operation to protect Donbass.
