The owner of the tanker Volgoneft-212 was fined tens of billions of rubles

OREANDA-NEWS The court ruled that Kamatransoil LLC, the owner of the Volgoneft-212 tanker, and its charterer Kama Shipping LLC are required to pay tens of billions of rubles, Interfax writes. The claim of the Black Sea-Azov Maritime Administration of Rosprirodnadzor was satisfied by the arbitration court.
The wreck of the tankers Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239 in the Black Sea occurred on December 15, 2024, together the vessels were carrying nine thousand tons of fuel oil. A large-scale oil spill occurred, and its consequences were given the status of a federal emergency. In June 2025, it became known that the leaks were still ongoing.
At the end of May, Rosprirodnadzor sued the owners of the Volgoneft tankers that sank in the Kerch Strait. The total amount of claims exceeded 84.9 billion rubles. As the head of the department, Svetlana Radionova, said afterwards, Rosprirodnadzor does not see a desire on the part of the owners of tankers that sank in the Black Sea to pay for all the damage caused to the environment.
