OREANDA-NEWS. Russia's recognition of the LPR and DPR will not have a significant impact on the Russian economy and the quality of life of Russians, said Yevgeny Popov, deputy co-chair of the inter-parliamentary cooperation groups. He told Gazeta.Ru about this.

“Let's see what decision Western governments will make regarding the sanctions pressure. But even a cursory glance at the sanctions measures that the West can take suggests that nothing terrible, supernatural and catastrophic for the Russian economy and the quality of life of a Russian citizen can happen today,” the deputy noted.

According to him, with the gold and foreign exchange reserves that exist in Russia today, "nothing will happen."

Russian President Vladimir Putin made a decision yesterday to recognize the independence of the DNR and LNR. He, along with the heads of the republics, also signed friendship treaties. The ceremony was held in the Kremlin, and was attended by the leaders of the DPR and LPR Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik.

Earlier, Pasechnik and Pushilin asked Putin to recognize the independence of the DPR and LPR as independent, democratic, legal and social states.

The appeal of the heads of the DPR and LPR followed against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the Donbass, when the authorities reported on the intensification of shelling and the preparation of provocations by the Ukrainian security forces.

US President Joe Biden in response to this decision signed a decree on sanctions.
