OREANDA-NEWS. Svetlana Bessarab, a member of the State Duma Committee on Labour, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs, on Tuesday, February 8, in an interview with Izvestia, commented on the law on life imprisonment for pedophiles, adopted earlier that day.

According to the deputy, it is necessary to work in all directions in the issue of protecting children from pedophiles.

“In my opinion, it is necessary to ensure full supervision of criminals in this area. Track the preconditions that a person can commit such a crime. For example, if a person is interested in prohibited sites or content. It is necessary to monitor this at the level of crime prevention. Of course, supervision is needed for those who have already served their sentences for pedophilia,” Bessarab emphasized.

She also expressed the opinion that it is necessary to ensure supervision through electronic tracking devices, exclude any contact between pedophiles and a child, and prohibit a criminal from approaching a certain distance to places where children gather for life.

“Of course, the law on life imprisonment for recidivist pedophiles is a necessary measure to protect children, but it needs to be improved. Without worldwide efforts in all areas of activity, it is impossible to achieve security. I think that with the development of digital technologies, relevant content supervision services, this will lead to some success in this area, ”concluded Bessarab.

The bill was submitted to the State Duma by the United Russia party and the first vice speaker of the Federation Council, secretary of the general council of the political force Andrei Turchak on September 10, 2021. After that, on January 18, the State Duma adopted the bill in the third reading. On January 26, the Federation Council approved it.
