OREANDA-NEWS The decline in the birth rate in Russia is a consequence of the demographic pit in the 1990s, according to the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family, Women and Children Tatiana Butskaya. She said this in an interview Ura.ru .

"Just the same generation of the 90s, who were born a little, and by their age they are now in active reproductive age. There are fewer of them every year, because there were fewer of them born then," the deputy explained. She also recalled the existence of various programs that encourage Russians to create families with several children.

As an example, Butskaya cited the maternity capital program, emphasizing that 2.5 million children were born in the country thanks to it. "Support for the birth now, especially of the second child, comes to the fore again," the politician summed up.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that now there is a discussion of possible additional measures to support families and fertility in the country. Earlier it was reported that an initiative is being considered to charge working women a monthly child care allowance along with a salary, provided they go to work before the end of the decree.
