OREANDA-NEWS  The goal of increasing fish consumption in Russia to the level of 25 kilograms per person per year is unattainable, therefore it should be excluded from the state program for the development of the fisheries complex. This is stated in the draft amendments published by the Ministry of Agriculture on the portal of draft regulatory legal acts for public discussion, RBC drew attention to.

The document, which is proposed to be edited, was approved back in 2014 by the head of government Dmitry Medvedev at that time. As stated in the explanatory note, now the state program must be brought into line with the updated Strategy for the development of agro-industrial and fisheries complexes until 2030.

The latter, in turn, was rewritten in September 2022 in connection with global economic trends, including the COVID-19 pandemic and increased sanctions and geopolitical pressure on the Russian economy.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rosrybolovstvo confirmed that they no longer consider the increase in the level of consumption of fish and fish products in households as one of the goals. At the same time, the representative of the agency pointed out that a number of factors affect the consumption of fish products, which they cannot influence in any way. These are regional peculiarities of the subjects of the Federation, market conditions, and, not least, the decline in the purchasing power of the population.
