OREANDA-NEWS Sechenov University specialists have developed a glove for restoring motor skills after a stroke, similar devices already exist, but are not manufactured in Russia, in addition, domestic development has a number of advantages, the university's press service told RIA Novosti.

"A prototype glove for restoring hand motor skills after stroke and injury was created by specialists from Sechenov University of the Ministry of Health of Russia. The device allows you to bend the patient's fingers automatically to restore their mobility," the message says.

Stroke and other neurological diseases, as well as injuries, can lead to weakening and impaired mobility of fingers and hands, motor skills can be restored with the help of physiotherapy and exercises, the press service said.

The developed device is a glove with five silicone actuators, which are located on top of the patient's fingers and change shape under the influence of compressed air, helping to bend the fingers, the developers explained.

They suggest that such a device will help the user develop muscle memory by repeatedly repeating a given set of movements.

Similar devices already exist, but are not manufactured in Russia. In addition, they are made of other, more rigid materials, the press service noted. Russian specialists used soft polymers with which the patient will be more pleasant to interact - such a glove will not cause pain or discomfort if, for example, the patient drops it on his lap, the university stressed.
