OREANDA-NEWS A new prototype of the Baikal aircraft with a VK-800 engine has successfully completed its first flight, the Ministry of Industry and Trade reported.
"The fifth prototype of the LMS-901 Baikal (the third flight) made a successful first test flight at the airfield of UZGA JSC. <...> During the flight, the aircraft equipped with a Russian VK-800 engine and an AV-901 propeller completed a full circle over the airfield and landed normally," it says. in a publication on the MAX platform.
The plane was in the air for ten minutes. He climbed to a height of 300 meters and reached a speed of 190 kilometers per hour.
"Before the flight tests of the new prototype, the UZGA modified the nose of the cockpit (to ensure ergonomics and safety requirements during an emergency landing), upgraded the main landing gear supports, and also changed the angle of the wing to eliminate the tendency to prematurely detach from the runway during takeoff in gusty winds," the department said.
The first tests of the Baikal with the VK-800 engine and the domestic AV-901 propeller were successfully completed at the end of December 2025. The aircraft is being built for local air lines and is supposed to replace the An-2 corncob. It was developed by Baikal-Engineering under a contract with the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
