OREANDA-NEWS Over the past fifty years, glaciers are melting faster and faster due to global warming. Because of this, the level of the World Ocean is growing, and not only Antarctica and Greenland play an important role in this process, but also smaller glaciers. For example, according to scientists, since 1961, the melting of land-based mountain glaciers has added about 27 millimeters to sea level, while the total water has risen 150 centimeters.

For scientists who are trying to predict global climate processes, it is very important to assess how quickly glaciers are melting. However, this is not easy to do, since it occurs mainly from the bottom, where it is simply impossible to get close. Because of this, scientists have to be content with various indirect methods.

Data were collected on water temperature, salt level and other information on the outflow of melt water. All this made it possible to draw conclusions - the factors under study are in no way interconnected, although scientists hoped to find a relationship. And the melting rate of the glacier is almost a hundred times higher than the previously assumed patterns of behavior of underwater ice blocks.
